Crafting the Art of Leadership

MELA 4, DAY ONE: 7 MARCH 2013

It is the opening morning of the program and the doors of Ballroom C are thrown open. Let the proceedings commence!

Jim Crupi (President and Founder, Strategic Leadership Solutions) welcomes the MELA 4 participants to an experience which assuredly will be like nothing they have encountered before.

John King (Founding Partner and CEO, Cultural Architecture) takes the floor to initiate an interactive inquiry into the nature of leadership. Management is neat; but leadership is messy. The former is a craft, the latter is an art.

Sanad Gharaibeh keeps his cool and doesn't miss a beat when confronted by John and the challenge of two plus two. However, tougher interrogations follow.

Jim and John tag-team as the group comes onto the floor to exchange knowledge and insights collectively.

Time for some well-deserved lunch  and animated conversation  for Saif Al-Abri and Dan Ciprari.

Portrait of a break-out group.

What areas of yourself need you develop to understand yourself and others, asks Marco Blankenburgh (International Director, KnowledgeWorkx). Like a diamond, you have facets; and you must not concentrate on the surface luster alone.

If your personality traits were inscribed on cards, which would you keep and which would you prefer to trade away? It looks like Nada El Shazly and Abeer Al-Qadi are holding all the strongest cards today...

Youmna Gemayel and Wassim Al Khatib: "Might I interest you in my dynamism in exchange for your warmheartedness?"

Saif and Abbas Al Balushi: "Need some resourcefulness? I'll give you a great deal on perseverance.."

Ahmed El-Banhawy and Maha Al Shuhail: "No, no, and no!"

Reem Al-Saqqa: "Pick a card  any card – everyone's a winner!"

Sanad and Said Alshanfari: "Your turn to hide the cards. One, two, three..."

Mater Al Dhafeeri loves card tricks.

The Wall of Turth: posting results of the DiSC assessments.

The paired introductions at dinner gave participants the opportunity to discover and share many unsuspected tidbits of information about one another.

The MELA 4 assemblage was indebted to Youmna for a comprehensive description of Abdulrahman Khansaheb's food preferences at the table this evening.

Who could have predicted that Eman Al Zakwani and Ahmed had so many points in common that they needed a whole book to contain them all?

Sometimes one microphone just isn't enough. Adib El Hachem helps his new friend Jaafar Al-Sarraf to satisfy his multiple microphone needs.

Said offered a prize for anyone in the audience able to tell him apart from Mater.
Nobody won.

Abeer and Amer Al Fadhil found they were both precocious at school and shared a passion for travel.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Al Majid and Manal Al Harthy were two shining lights of shared charm and charisma.

THANK YOU FOR A WONDERFUL FIRST DAY OF MELA 4!
SEE YOU TOMORROW FOR DAY TWO!
