Life and Leadership

MELA 5, DAY FOUR: 9 MARCH 2014, PART I

Michael Kouly expands yesterday's discussion to issues of life and leadership, purpose and priorities. This is heavy stuff. But without possessing inner clarity about these intersecting questions, how can one allocate one's time and resources properly?

Noor's reaction to Michael's theme is heartfelt.

 Nahla makes her point.

Majid and Salim at the receiving end of a point.

Next on the agenda: decision-making. Central to leadership, yet fraught with difficulties, as clashing (and sometimes mutually exclusive) interests and loyalties come into conflict.

Rawan has made a decision to give the session a thumbs up.

There is no dogmatism or rigidity at MELA. Every idea is fair game for discussion and testing. Every assertion should be passed through the flame of our collective experience and wisdom.

Siham puts Michael's feet to the fire... metaphorically speaking.

Facilitator Ginny Jackson and Elham are simmering nicely, thank you very much.

We gratefully welcome guest speaker Wael Sawan (Managing Director and Chairman, Qatar Shell Companies). He weaves together professional lessons from his own career and the experience of exerting leadership and bringing change within his company.

Jim Crupi thanks our speaker for an interview that was direct, insightful, and inspiring.

Follow-up questions from Samira, Suha and Monah.

Rob Sherwin (General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Qatar Shell) is in the house and greets his Qatari colleagues. He's forgotten his thobe, though.

The A Team (Abdelrahman, Asim, Amer) hang out during the break. They define MELA cool. Move over, Marlborough Man. These are MELA Men.

The S Team (Samira, Sami) is equally exclusive.

Ernst and Raja pose with some sweeties.

The civilized pleasure of afternoon tea.

The combined Lebanese-Palestinian-Syrian-Iraqi team prepares for the Cultural Exchange this evening! And with that cliffhanger ending...
