An Oasis of Learning and Sharing

MELA DAY FOUR, 16 MARCH 2011

Interpersonal conflicts are a part of life. Dealing with them effectively is a part of leadership. Bill Starnes reviews practical steps that can help mitigate confrontations as they arise.

Even in the Movenpick's artificial oasis, no one has lost sight of the conflicts and turmoil transforming the Middle East outside. Within MELA, at least, harmony reigns. Nancy McCandlish and Yasser find common ground discussing Bill's session.

Learning and sharing remain watchwords of the workshop. Here, Andrew shares with Hania the secret of properly knotting a tie.

Divergent opinions can not always be reconciled. Subtle non-verbal cues by Brice and Lama indicate that they have agreed to disagree.

Introducing the first speaker of the day: Guido Ruther (VP for Corporate Planning, Network Management & Alliances, Sales & Marketing, Royal Jordanian Airlines).

As a Swiss working in Jordan, Guido Ruther explains that he knows a thing or two about having to adapt one's leadership style to match different cultural situations. The facilitator bloc looks on.

Ahmed, Dima, and Mohammad in the audience for the second speaker of the day, Rabea Ataya (Founder & CEO, Bayt.com). He describes how the lessons of failure can plant the seeds for future success.

Our thanks to Rabea Ataya for an energetic and inspiring talk on his pathway to building world-class businesses.
