Larks and Owls

MELA 3 DAY EIGHT, 22 MARCH 2012: PART ONE

There are morning people, who greet the dawn singing. There are night people, for whom waking up before lunch is grim. With a program as intense as MELA's, both the larks and the owls have their chance to come to the fore in the course of the long days' cycles.

Led by the larks, MELA friends new and old have met the challenge of an 8 a.m. start today, to meet over breakfast and share stories in preparation for our first session, when MELA 3 members will introduce the alumni who have gathered for the Reunion.

More coffee, for mercy's sake!

Cinderella and Joe.

Duelling cameras. Rateb gets aggressive.

Duelling smiles: Radwa and Shamma.

All attempts to identify the subjects of this photograph have been unsuccessful so far, notwithstanding strenuous full-time efforts by our 10-person research team. The work (funded by the UN) continues.

On the other hand, who could possibly fail to recognize Rima' and Nader?

Rada and Abdullah -- both sporty in mauve today.

Ali Fadhlani presents Soughit to the group. It looks like he has some tidbits to share about her that even Soughit didn't know.

Ali Mortagui prefers to present Dania in a talk-show format.

Feras gives Mohamad the thumbs up.

Khalid acknowledges that Asma has got him pegged pretty accurately.

Introducers Alaa and Reem flank their introducee Hamoud.

Elissar and Abdullah.

Thamer and Adey.
Adey and Thamer.

Youssef is available. What is funny about that? Sorry, but it's hard to explain. You had to be there. Mohannad joins in the joke.

Victor Antonio gives tips on harnessing the power of social media as part of a business strategy. As in the proverb "all roads lead to Rome," the signposts on your social media sites should all be leading your visitors or clients back to your central website.

All eyes lead to Victor.

Panos Manolopoulos (Global Vice Chairman, Stanton Chase International) is the afternoon's first guest speaker, addressing the topic of leadership challenges in a changing world.

He demonstrates how innovation-driven economies are the wave of the future, requiring a leadership style to match.

Monther's weighs up Panos' points.

"Leading into the Future: Technology, Techniques and Trim-Tabs," is the title of Mac McClelland's talk (President, Center House). What is a trim-tab? See the MELA Twitter feed!

Bill Starnes presents the speaker with a token of appreciation.

(A "MELA"-engraved 1/8-truncated crystal cube, to be precise.)

Yiannis Lagos (President, HumanTelligence) presents the results of the TalentScan survey taken by MELA members. It is a tool to help organizations unlock and leverage "People Intelligence."

The owls wake up at last, as we are the dinner guests of one of Stanton Chase's executives at his impressive farm compound. A relaxing end to a long day, and a fine venue to wish Nabil Alyousuf a very happy birthday!
