Fresh energy and anticipation as the sun rises on the second day of MELA.
Faculty Director Bill Starnes (retired Partner, Trammell Crow International) encourages the members to broaden their repertoire of leadership styles to meet different challenges as they arise. The analogy that Bill offers: How would you fare, if you owned only one pair of shoes to wear for all occasions?
The men of MELA ponder this intriguing possibility: Adey, Firas, Yasser...
… but nobody need have any fears that the participants at MELA are equipped with only a single pair of shoes.
The simulation led by Michael Kouly threw light on modes of exercising power and dealing with authority in the region.
Some people were provoked, others were perplexed by the unconventional presentation. Nobody lost their temper, but some people lost their cool -- others lost patience -- Michael lost his shoes.

The Spoils of Heroism: Radwa exhibits how she has struck a blow against the dead weight of Michael’s tyranny -- by stealing his shoes.
An important message of the simulation: Individuals and all entities have an inner imperative to survive and grow. Make sure you participate in the right process that will help you achieve your purpose! Soughit contemplates purpose.
Another message of the simulation: it is possible to respect authority without having to bow down before it. MELA's academic and administration directors Bill Starnes and John Mills put their heads together. Standing behind: MELA Regional Director Mohmmad Habib.
Next on the agenda: Shamma and facilitator Don Hutson look forward to "Telling Your Leadership Story" with Jim Crupi.
"Everyone has a moment when they realize that they want to become a leader."
Hitham, Yasser, Lana, Shamma
The evening Parallel Sessions allowed MELA and Society of International Business Fellows (SIBF) members to exchange their wisdom and insights about specific topics in informal but nonetheless probing conversations. Luke Simons with Johnny Roberts lead a discussion about building businesses...
.... while Shelby Grubbs moderates an exploration of growing talent in the workplace.
